Herman Schechter (Sonia) z”l was the son of Frima and Henrik.
Herman was born on August 12th, 1925 in Drohobycz. He passed away on September 11th, 2019 in Israel.
When he was ten years old, the family moved to Lvov, where they lived until the war broke out. Most of his family perished in the holocaust.
Herman managed to survive in spite of many hardships and joined the Red Army.
After the war he returned to Drohobycz and married Chaya. His two children were born in Drohobycz. After three years in Poland, the family immigrated to Israel in 1959. Soon after, he got a job in the Haifa refinery.
During his last years, he lived in a senior facility close to his daughter, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren until his passing in 2019.
We remember the optimism he always displayed, and the spirit of volunteerism that accompanied him throughout his life for the sake of those who needed help.
May his memory be a blessing.
